To help potential clients with any general enquiries, we have answered some of the most frequently asked questions below. If you have any questions of your own, big or small, please don't hesitate to ask.

  • What’s the design process?

Embarking on a new design for your company, be it a new logo or a website, is a big step for most people. Where do we start? You may have specific ideas about what you want with a full brief, or you may be completely open to ideas, we work equally well both ways. If you're unsure of how or what to brief you can request our client briefing sheet to help get the thought process underway.

We talk to you at lengths about your company vision, what identity you are trying to project and the look and feel you are trying to achieve. We then research the market and get our creative juices flowing!

We send clients a PDF presentation showing a range of effective design solutions. Upon approval, one of the design routes will be developed into the final design. When completed, you will receive a final set of artwork files.

  • How long does a job take?

It varies depending on what the job is and the complexity of the project, but a corporate identity for example, will take 2-3 weeks for the design and concept stage, with a further week to create all final artwork.

Printing typically takes about 5 to 10 business days to complete and deliver your project from the day you approve the final artwork files.

  • What if I don’t like the design?

Jane Jones Design encourages client contact throughout all stages of the design process. We’ll always work together to achieve the very best possible outcome. If you’re not happy with something, we’ll work together until you are.

Don’t expect the first draft to be perfect! Remember, it’s a first draft for a reason. If it is not perfect, that is okay. We love to collaborate and want to hear your input. It might take a couple of times to finally reach your final product, so be patient and also communicate clearly about exactly what it is you are looking for.

  • What about costs?

You will receive a written estimate that includes all costs and a breakdown of the project stages. All projects are completely different, and are priced accordingly based on each clients personal needs. You may require several different concepts across a variety of media, or you may be on a budget which we will always try to accommodate.

    What about changes?

Throughout the design stage, you need to be involved, and as we work together, changes in the initial stages are included as part of the design process, and never charged as ‘amendments’. However once a design has been chosen and incorporated, changes to design and text edits are charged at an hourly rate.

  • How do I go about printing?

Jane Jones Design works in partnership with a network of trusted and reliable printers. The quality is excellent at competitive prices. Quotes are available on request, please brief for example ‘1000 business cards on 300gsm stock with matt lamination’. We can also supply you with print ready files to pass on to a printer of your choice.

  • What do I keep?

On completion of design we supply all artwork which is property of you the client. Unlike some companies we do not hold client designs as our property, and we do not charge to release files. All files will be supplied as print-ready artwork in whatever format is required (printers usually require pdfs). We may add designs to our portfolio.

  • Web design

So you take the plunge and decide to create your much awaited website! Where do we start? You can brief us on your content and any ideas you have on the design (see supplying text and images below) and we’ll get started. You may know exactly what you want or you may need help with ideas and a site plan. You can set up your own domain and hosting or leave that to us. All websites are setup in Wordpress or Joomla - both CMS platforms and great for SEO.

  • What if I want to update my website?

As mentioned, websites are built in WordPress or Joomla, incredibly user friendly platforms where you have total control of any content. Great instructions are supplied and you will not believe just how easy it is to edit your own content. This saves timely amendments and costs incurred with the designer having to make the changes.

  • What programs do you use on the computer?

We use the Adobe Creative Suite of design programs, which include Adobe InDesign for layout design and artwork, Adobe Illustrator for logo and illustration work and Adobe Photoshop for image editing.

Illustrator is very versatile as you can use it for making anything from business cards to billboards. Because it’s a vector-based graphics application, things aren’t dependent on pixels. So you can blow things up really big, or make things super small and the artwork maintains it’s crispness. The file sizes are also very small, so it makes it easy to send artwork electronically.

Clients often ask for artwork in Microsoft Word, however this is a word processing document and doesn’t have the versatility that the professional design programs have for creating business cards, brochures etc. However simple Word documents such as A4 covers, letterheads, plus PowerPoint templates can be created and supplied for client’s use.

  • What do I need to supply?

Any text needs to be supplied in Microsoft Word. Images need to be supplied as jpegs or tiffs, at a minimum size of 300 dpi at 100%. We have access to a vast supply of stock imagery at great prices if you don’t have images of your own.
